From LPTT:
We stayed in Mirador Mansions one year ago on the thirteenth floor. Sorry, I forget the actual name of the hotel but as you get off the elevator it is immediately to the right. We paid $160 HK per night for a double room with private bathroom, air-con and TV. It was cramped, of course, but clean. I don't really know about the security issue but we were there for several days and never experienced a problem.

We took the double decker bus all the way around the island and it was a great way to whole island. I took the fast ferry to lantau island and hiked across the island past the monastery and took a ferry from a different bay back to the star ferry terminal
The best Sightseeing tours in Hong KongVisit HK Island. Start from Hong Kong Park, after Man Mo temple; take funicular for Victoria Peak (amazing panorama), and then go to Repulse Bay Beach with Tin Hau temple, Stanley Market and finish at Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter (harbor). *Use the shuttle of the Jumbo Restaurant, is free.In HK, take the tramway, from North to South of the city just for 2 HKD, 2h in another world, slow and peace. ^_^
Green day Lama Island, Cheung Chow Island or Lantau Island with the big Buddha, then the village of fishermen of Tai O, that is very curious, have to see absolutely.
Shopping dayThe Pacific Place on HK, or after Cat Street, street of the antique dealers. Leave to KLN from HK; take the ferry from Central ferry pier, 3 HKD, fun in 7 minutes.
Go to Ocean Center (the greatest shopping centre of the world), which is just close to the pier on the KLN side, envisage a large wallet!
In Tsim Sha Tsui, you will find these stores of cameras, telephones and tailors, you walk along Nathan Rd to Mong Kok, have a look at the Bird Market and Fish Market. In Sham Shui Po, electronic products for computer, games for PS2, Nintendo etc.
Golden Computer Center.
Cheung Sha Wan road is a great place to pick up the latest fashions at the wholesale prices, and Flea Market (jade, watches, cellular, etc.) on Apliu Street open from noon to 10 pm.
You can finish your trip at the Ladies Market in Mong Kok, open from noon to 12 pm.The nightTo visit Temple Street In Yau Ma Tei at night (kind of flea market).
In Tsim Sha Tsui "promenade of the stars" fabulous view for the other side of harbor.Lan Kwai Fong on HK side, live music and bars.Knutsford terrace on KLN side, bars and restaurant for nights.

so much today:
I went, Bangkok to north Thailand, into Laos doing the Laotian
loop and then to Champasak in the south. Back to Bangkok and then
through Cambodia, and into Vietnam (Saigon to Hanoi). That took
about 2 and a half months. This is the easiest route.
You can go Laos to Camboia, but the border situation is constantly
changing, and it takes a few days to get anywhere.
Later I flew into Bangkok again and headed south (Krabi, Koh
Samui, ...), through Malaysia and into Singapore. I didn't do
Indonesia, since it's so big it takes a couple of months to do it
justice. But it's easy to get there from southern Malaysia.
You can fly to HK easily from Hanoi, but if you have the time why
not travel overland from Hanoi to HK? Crossing the border was easy
when I was there last year.
One suggestion is Borneo. I loved Sabah, it was a definite
highlight of my year. You can get really cheap flights from Kuala
Lampur on Air Asia. I paid 99 R each way (about $25 US). You could
fly into Sandakan and travel down to Kuching (via Brunei). A great 2-
3 week trip. If you don't have the time, at least consider one week
in borneo, Sandakan to Kota kinabalu is do-able.

Honduras Beach Info:
Here is some of what I remember about prices. The boat (to Roatan) is 15$ each
way. DO NOT take it if the weather is bad. I was on it when every
single person got sick. The flight from Le Ceiba ia about 20$. When
you get there, do not take a cab. The collectivo cost almost
nothing. just walk out of the airport parking lot to get away from
the taxis. At the dock, just walk away to the main street. It a very
small place. Diving lessons on Roatan are about 175$ and 100 more
for the deep water class. Both are PADI. The ruins in Copan are nice
and the town is not big or expensive. It cost twenty to see the site
and 20 more for the museum. or was it 10 each. been a while. The
museum was good. All the cities in Honduras are very bad. I thought
kind of scary.

On Spontenaity, from the RTWers group:
The other reason for not booking things in advance is that you
will meet more people that way. The classic scenario is:
- plane disgorges passengers
- everyone tramps through customs and collects luggage
- those trailing wheely suitcases are rounded up by blazer wearing reps
and hurded into waiting coach
- three "crusties" sporting piercings in every (observable) orifice,
pick up their festival warn rucksacks (with attached "American Indian
dreamcatchers") and set off to have a roll up and haggle with the taxi
guys.
- you spot the rather attractive young lady with a newish Karrimor
looking rather lost in the corner intensively examining her copy of the
Lonely Planet
- you confidently siddle up and suggest you share a cab to town - she
gleefully accepts
- turns out she is on a budget of USD 8 per night, USD 5 if possible
and you have to figure whether its worth forgoing that hot shower to
not lose touch with this cutie
- you figure you would rather be in a grotty place with a ready made
friend than take a chance of being very lonely in that $25 a night
pension with air con and hot shower that the guidebook recommends.

A great How To from chichenbus.com
Q. How can I do it?
Make the decision now, not later to travel the world.
Decide to put your "career" on hold for a while. Will you really be unemployed when you get back? No matter how far "up the ladder" of success you are, decide
what is more important in the long run. No one ever said on their deathbed; "I wish I spent more time at the office." Believe it or not, "Traveled the world" looks pretty
good on a resume & usually ends up being the conversation piece in interviews. Most employers will respect your decision & will want postcards. If they don't, then
you shouldn't be working there anyway.
Make the decision to leave your family, friends & comfortable routien for a while. Everything will be exactly (and we mean exactly) the same when you get back.
The only thing that will be different is you.
Make the commitment to do it. It's a small production to put this show on the road & some days it will seem overwhelming, but its worth it.
Decide on what you want to see. Great Wall, The Pyramids, Maccu Pichu, Vietnam, Venice, Trekking, Rafting, Diving. Then connect the dots & work out
the pieces of the puzzle. Get your route in place, but don't plan to stick to it.
Save alot, Read & Plan a little.
Get on that plane & go! Before you know it, the trip takes its course & you're off to see the world!
Have an incredible time!

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN, Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
